Companioning Others Through Suffering

The impact of COVID-19. The tragic deaths of George Floyd and many others. The last few weeks have increased many Americans’ awareness and experience of suffering. In the midst of these trying times, God calls us to companion those who are suffering—not turn away from their pain. C4SO talks to Christine Warner, Director of the Matthew 25 Initiative, about why she feels passionate about ministering to suffering people and how she finds God in places of suffering.

URGENT: Since COVID-19, the Matthew 25 Initiative has seen the suffering of previously suffering communities increase exponentially. With physical presence now limited, please consider giving to the COVID-19 Fund created by the Anglican Church in North America. Your gifts will go directly to those who need it the most in this time of acute need.

A Note on Christine Warner

Christine Warner was in a near-fatal accident April 10, 2018. She was struck by a truck while putting gas in her car, suffering multiple life-threatening injuries. She is still recovering, thanks to the sovereign grace of our Lord and Healer. Her parish set up a website that tells part of the story, a beautiful and rich capturing of a theology of suffering and yet faith and pastoral shepherding in crisis and pain. Christine invites you to read her story as additional context for this conversation on suffering.
