The Rev. Dr. Scot McKnight has been appointed by Bishop Todd Hunter as a Canon Theologian for the Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others. This appointment was unanimously celebrated by the other diocesan canons and deans. Canon McKnight was ordained by Bishop Hunter to the Sacred Order of Deacons at a service in April of 2014 and has been serving the Diocese as a theological advisor since that time. Canon McKnight is to, “assist the Bishop in all matters of theology and to assist in the training of our ordinands; to speak and write on behalf of the bishop and C4SO as called upon.”

When asked about his appointment, McKnight replied, “Nothing is a greater honor to me than to be called into the ministry of faithful presentation and articulation of the gospel. A Canon Theologian has a simple calling: to guide the church into the future in a way that remains faithful to the past.”

Additionally, The Rev. Canon Dr. Dennis Okholm will continue his faithful service as a Canon Theologian. Bishop Hunter has always held theological formation and depth as a primary aspiration for this Diocese. Canons McKnight and Okholm will now team together to help instruct, form, and a raise up new generations of theologically-trained clergy and lay leaders.
